Our Students had a fabulous SAT school day last week. We wanted to share this informational sheet about the scores.
Students should receive their scores by Thursday, May 14, 2026 in their College Board Accounts.
Title: 2025–26 Understanding the Multiple Benchmarks of SAT School Day
The chart explains how SAT School Day Reading/Writing (RW) and Math scores (range 200–800) are used for three different benchmarks in West Virginia:
A. West Virginia Grade 11 Proficiency Scores
Reading/Writing (RW): 470
Math: 520
Meaning:
Students in Grade 11 meet or exceed standard when their RW and Math scores are at or above these cuts.
RW scores at or above 470 meet or exceed the expectations of the state’s standards for English Language Arts (ELA).
Math scores at or above 520 meet or exceed the expectations of the state’s standards for Math.
These ELA and Math proficiency scores are used in WVDE accountability calculations as part of school accountability.
Standard setting took place in June 2018 in Charleston, WV, using 2018 student test data.
How set:
Rigorous technical standard-setting process.
Judgement of a panel of West Virginia educators, administrators, community members, and parents.
B. SAT College- and Career-Readiness Benchmark
Reading/Writing (RW): 480
Math: 530
Meaning:
Students are considered college and career ready when their SAT section scores meet both the RW and Math benchmarks.
RW scores at or above 480 mean a student has a 75% chance of earning at least a C in first-semester, credit-bearing college courses in history, literature, social sciences, or writing.
Math scores at or above 530 mean a student has a 75% chance of earning at least a C in first-semester, credit-bearing college courses in algebra, statistics, pre-calculus, or calculus.
Institutions of Higher Education may use these RW or Math scores for college admissions and placement into freshman courses, or may set higher entrance requirements. Students should check each institution’s entrance requirements.
Benchmarks were set in 2016 by College Board using data from the 2009 high school graduating class SAT scores and first-semester college grades.
How set:
Sample of students’ SAT scores and first-year GPAs.
Data analyzed and weighted to be generalizable to the overall college-going population of SAT takers.
C. West Virginia 2025–2026 PROMISE Scholarship Scores
Reading/Writing (RW): 510
Math: 510
Meaning:
Students are considered eligible for the PROMISE Scholarship when they score at least 510 in RW and 510 in Math, with a combined score of 1080.
The PROMISE Scholarship is a merit-based financial aid program for West Virginia residents. SAT scores are one component in determining PROMISE eligibility.
The Higher Education Student Financial Aid Advisory Board makes recommendations to the Higher Education Policy Commission regarding PROMISE eligibility.
The current scores are set to serve the maximum number of students within the available budget.
How set:
Concordance study linking ACT and SAT.
Available budget.

As our Juniors prepare for SAT School Day, here’s a quick look at the three key score benchmarks that matter for West Virginia students:
• WV Grade 11 Proficiency – Scores that show students are meeting WV State Standards
• SAT College & Career Readiness – Scores linked to success in first‑year college courses, and career fields that require strong reading, writing, and quantitative reasoning ( technical programs, apprenticeships, workforce training, military pathways.)
• PROMISE Scholarship Eligibility – Scores required for West Virginia’s merit‑based scholarship
These benchmarks help families, students, and educators understand progress, plan next steps, and celebrate achievements.
Remember to support our Juniors as they work toward their goals this spring!

Aspire Update: In order to help make up the days missed and to be closer to the 110-day requirement,

📢 Parent Update: CyberSWAT Online Safety Lessons
West Virginia now requires all public schools to provide annual online‑safety instruction for students in grades 3–12 under Senate Bill 466. Parents who would like to read the bill can find it here:
Senate Bill 466
To meet this requirement, our students will be completing CyberSWAT Skyll lessons—interactive, age‑appropriate sessions that teach safe and responsible technology use.
These lessons address several important topics, including:
Recognizing online predators
Understanding the risks of sexting or sharing explicit materials
Cyberbullying prevention
Human trafficking awareness
Safe use of online communication platforms
How to identify, avoid, and report dangerous or illegal online behavior
The parent letter has been sent home with 6-12th grade students and will be sent home with grades 3-5 next week. It explains that the SWAT program provides interactive lessons focused on digital literacy and online safety.
Parents can preview a sample lesson here:
CyberSWAT Sample Lesson
Thank you for partnering with us to help keep students safe as they navigate today’s digital world.

Bus 21 will be delayed due to a line down on Sassafras. This will require the bus to back track, creating a 30 min delay for students who live on Russett/Rt 7.
