FAFSA ID workshop with GSU.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid will begin in early December, but we want to help you take the first steps. Seniors and their families are invited to receive help from our partners in education, Glenville State University. Representatives will assist you in setting up your Student and Parent ID. The FAFSA can be daunting, but we are here to help you every step of the way. Reprensentatives will be available from 9:00 to 3:00.
Seniors, do you need help with filling out scholarships? See Ms. Sampson in the College and Career Room every Monday during AA in December. We'll break it down one scholarship at a time!
Interested in the Health Sciences? Apply today!
Calhoun County Schools is working hard to promote attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. Attendance is an instrumental part of academic success. Getting your child to school on-time, every day, unless they are sick, is something that you can do to ensure your child has a chance to succeed in school. You can promote good attendance when you:
Establish and stick to the basic routines (going to bed early, waking up on time, etc.) that will help your child develop the habit of on-time attendance.
Talk to your child about why going to school every day is critical and important unless they are sick. If your child seems reluctant to go to school, find out why and work with the teacher, administrator or afterschool provider to get them excited about going to school.
Come up with back up plans for who to turn to (another family member, a neighbor or fellow parents) to help you get your child to school if something comes up (e.g. another child gets sick, your car breaks down, etc.).
Reach out for help if you are experiencing tough times (e.g. transportation, unstable housing, loss of a job, health problems) that make it difficult to get your child to school. Other parents, your child’s teacher, principal, social worker, school nurse, afterschool providers or community agencies can help you problem solve or connect you to a needed resource.
If your child is absent, work with the teacher to make sure she or he has an opportunity to learn and make up for the academics missed.

Why send our student representatives to HOBY?
At HOBY, we believe the most valuable resource communities can invest in is their youth. We provide students with an amazing opportunity to learn how to lead and make a difference in the world. We teach young leaders "how to think, not what to think" - creatively, critically, and compassionately.
HOBY Ambassadors will have the distinction of representing their school and state. Students have an unforgettable experience and develop leadership skills that will serve them long into the future.
HOBY is also a highlight of any high school resume. The program is well-known among college admissions officers and provides students with access to additional recognition and scholarships, such as the Presidential Service Award.

The levy will provide funding for maintenance, facility improvements, and equipment at Calhoun County Schools. With these funds, we plan to upgrade our sports facilities, ensuring safe, high-quality spaces for our students and youth. Additionally, we hope to use part of this funding to purchase playground equipment for Calhoun Middle High School. This levy will support ongoing facility upkeep and necessary equipment purchases, directly benefiting our students and community.
On November 8th we will be having a Veteran’s Day Assembly here at CMHS at 10:00 am. We are in search of veterans to honor at this event. Veterans can attend or just have their information announced. Attached is the veteran information sheet that will need to be filled out and returned to the school by November 6th. We need your help to find people to honor at this event.
Due to a water line break, Calhoun County Schools will dismiss students around 2:15 PM today. Please make any necessary arrangements. Thank you for your understanding.

CMHS weekly Athletic Schedule!
The levy will fund a Prevention Resource Officer for the county, enhancing security in our school and providing valuable support to staff. We’re proud of our amazing police department here in Calhoun, and this will allow us to have an officer dedicated specifically to the school system. Their presence will strengthen the safety and security of both students and staff. Additionally, the officer will be able to assist with educational components in our classes, further enriching our school environment.
We all know how essential school nurses are to the well-being of our students and staff. Our current school nurse plays a crucial role in the daily routine—whether it's caring for sick students, assisting staff, or handling emergencies. The School Levy would allow us to hire an additional nurse to float between Pleasant Hill Elementary and Arnoldsburg Elementary. This would greatly benefit both students and staff across the county.
ATTENTION SOPHOMORES!
We have one opening for HOBY!
Students across the country and around the world attend HOBY to further their leadership journeys. By attending our seminars, students gain a concrete sense of their own leadership abilities and values, learn tangible skills to lead diverse groups, and make connections with peers across their state. HOBY Youth Leadership programs encourage young people to focus their energy on making a positive impact on their communities. At HOBY, you become part of something bigger.
If you are interested, write an essay on "What Leadership Means to Me" and submit to Ms. Sampson by November 6, 2024.
