In partnership with the Northern WV Rural Health Education Center we will be offering an unique opportunity to students in 11th and 12th grade to participate in the Moving Upward and Onward Preparedness Workshop! In its 13th year, the MOU program is a great opportunity for juniors and seniors from Calhoun County Middle/High School to explore health careers through a unique partnership with Minnie Hamilton Health Systems (MHHS).
MOU is designed to provide meaningful opportunities to explore your interests in health careers through clinical shadowing at MHHS, regular meetings, virtual job shadow exploration, independent projects, group discussions, a field trip to West Virginia University, and more. You will experience a variety of job skills through hands-on learning and explore the educational and training requirements to work in your chosen field.
To better prepare you for this opportunity CMHS Student Services will be providing 6 workshop classes during AA time. During the workshop you will learn public speaking skills, written communication skills, job interview skills, and other professional soft skills. To sign up for the classes, please see Ms. Sampson. We will begin Wednesday, September 27th at 12:06pm.

Greetings from Senator Capito’s office!
Last year, approx. 19 students attending or who have attended schools in Berkeley, Brooke, Cabell, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Marion, Mercer, Monongalia, Monroe, Ohio, and Putnam county received appointments to United States Service Academies and Preparatory Schools and began their journeys this summer.
WV students graduated from U.S. Service Academies in 2023 and are moving forward to wonderful careers in various fields. Our WV students are more than capable of meeting the challenge of completing these prestigious institutions, but they must be aware of these opportunities in order to take advantage of them.
The key to a student’s success (besides academic, physical, and extracurricular achievements) is being informed about potential opportunities at these educational institutions and starting the information gathering process as early as possible. An appointment to a U.S. Service Academy is a fully funded education opportunity valued from $240,000 to more than $400,000.
We are writing to request that you spread the word to your students that Academy Day 2023 will be held for any and all students, parents and school officials interested in learning more about U.S. service academies (Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, Military/West Point, Naval).
We will also have representatives from local ROTC programs on hand to discuss ROTC scholarship opportunities. Mock interviews will be offered and a representative from the Dept. of Defense’s Medical Examination Review Board will join us on Saturday, September 23, 2023 and Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Academy Day is an opportunity for students, parents, and school officials to ask questions and obtain information regarding the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy as well as the ROTC scholarship process. No Registration Required.
Students who want to attend a prestigious U.S. Service Academy or ROTC program are generally more successful when they begin planning courses and extracurricular activities early in their academic career. Please attend and encourage middle and high school aged students and parents to attend.

Attn: Current High School Juniors and Seniors (2023-2024) School Year!
The FBI Pittsburgh Division is happy to announce our division will be hosting four in-person Teen Academies this fall.
The dates and locations for the 2023 Fall Program are below:
FBI Charleston, WV Teen Academy; October 18, 2023
FBI Huntington, WV Teen Academy; October 19, 2023
FBI Pittsburgh, PA Teen Academy; October 26, 2023
FBI Martinsburg, WV Teen Academy; November 2, 2023
Teen Academy is a one-day hands-on program for current High School Juniors and Seniors (2023-2024 school year) who live within the FBI Pittsburgh Division’s area of responsibility in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Teen Academy is a chance for youth to learn about the FBI and what a variety of career paths in the FBI would entail.
Selected students are offered insight into a number of topics and specialties, including the importance of making good choices when using online communication platforms, federal law violations the FBI investigates, requirements of all FBI applicants, and the FBI’s domestic and international roles. Students will also enjoy various hands-on experiences involving specialized areas of the FBI, such as our Evidence Response Team. After completing the class, students are more aware of challenges their communities face, better understand how the FBI serves their region, and are prepared to mentor their peers.
Please visit the following link to view a sneak peek of our Teen Academy program and to download an official application, which includes an essay requirement. The 6th grade social studies Preamble Challenge was a success. It was great to hear students recite the Preamble last Friday, on the first day of school, while others took the weekend and recited it on Monday. Raffle tickets were given, and prizes were awarded in each class.
