Good afternoon, we wanted to remind everyone that Friday October 27 is homecoming. All students will be transported to the homecoming parade on Friday October 27th. The parade will start at 2:30. After the parade we will dismiss from Grantsville. Parents/Guardians please be at the bus stops a little earlier on Friday. Students who live on Phillips Run will ride bus 9 Friday after the parade. The homecoming game is at 7:00, homecoming activities will be at halftime.

Middle School Girls Basketball will have tryouts starting Monday October 30th from 4-6 pm. Please have tennis shoes and shorts to practice in. If you have not played a fall sport this year, you will need to have a sports physical dated on or after May 1, 2023. Your child will not be able to participate if they do not have a current sports physical.

The CMHS marching band ended their competitive season at the annual West Virginia Marching Band invitational on Saturday October 21st.
The judges awarded the band:
2nd place percussion
2nd place drum major
2nd place band in Class D2
1st place colorguard
2nd place twirlers overall
This is the second consecutive year that the band has been awarded 2nd place band in their class at the state competition.
Homecoming Spirit Week themes
Mrs. Mace's 5th grade math classes have been learning about decimals and multiplication. To teach students how these math concepts apply in real life Mrs. Mace came up with the following virtual shopping experience right in her classroom. Students were given a shopping list from the SmartBoard in the classroom and which they had to choose six items from with different quantities. They then had to look up the items, get prices and work the magical math. As can been seen in the pictures, student had fun and now understand how the math they have been learning can be used in everyday life.

The West Virginia Promise Scholarship Application is Open for the Class of 2024!
The Promise Scholarship is a merit-based financial aid program for West Virginia residents. Students who achieve certain academic requirements are eligible to receive funds to help pay for college. Eligible high school graduates will receive annual awards up to $5,200 to cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees at public or independent institutions in West Virginia. The 2023 yearbooks have arrived! If you ordered one, please make arrangements to pick them up or stop by Mrs. Hall's classroom (A111). There will be a limited number of extra yearbooks for sale starting next week in case you didn't get one ordered. They will be sold for $30 on a first-come first-served basis.
Monday, October 23rd, Lifetouch will be here for picture portrait retakes in grades 5-12. This will be the last opportunity for students to get their pictures taken at CMHS for the 2024 Yearbook. Order forms may be picked up in the office or in Mrs. Hall's classroom.

Our team showed incredible dedication and perseverance, and it paid off with some outstanding performances. 🌟 Two of our runners even earned 2nd Team All Conference honors:
🥈 Carissa Sands claimed 13th place with a remarkable time of 16:11.15. 🏅
🥈 Brooke Tingler secured the 19th place spot with a fantastic time of 18:13.19. 🏅
But the achievements don't stop there! 🏁 Zac Smith displayed exceptional skill and determination, finishing strong with a time of 15:49.77. 🚀

On October 12th, Freshman Jackson Clawson tackled the Cross Country LKC event in Clay County, it was one intense race with a whopping 72 runners!
He had an awesome run, clocking in at 21:02:7 🏅 and setting yet another Personal Record. 🚀 That's a 6:47 mile pace – a major accomplishment! 🏆
But the journey doesn't stop there! The adventure continues as he gears up to represent Calhoun County at regionals in Mineral Wells on Thursday, October 19th. 🏞️🏆

State Aid Applications Now Live!
While there is a delay in the 2024-2025 FAFSA going live until December 2023, applications for the Promise Scholarship, WV Invests Grant, and WV STEM Scholarship opened October 1, 2023, in the WV Student Aid Management (WVSAM) system. Students will need to create a WVSAM Account before applying. At the same time, students can and should create their FSA ID. For both systems, we encourage students to use a personal email address they will have access to after high school graduation and not their K12 email address. Students (and parents) should create an FSA ID at studentaid.gov while waiting on the 2024-2025 FAFSA to launch.
